The ninth son of Patrick Frances Smyth and Katerina Te Wheoki (a Maori " Princess" - according to Rie Fletcher). He became Headmaster of St Step hens Boys' Maori School at Bombay, Auckland.
Born on 21 October 1893 at Pungaere, just North of Kerikeri, according t o Joan Sandin(Smyth). There appears to be no record of his birth in the Registrar General's Office (Maori Birth?) - or not sent to Reg Gen but held in Kerikeri?
